Synopsis
Sinsegye (‘new world’) Mental Hospital is filled with patients that have bizarre thoughts and imaginations, that Yeong-gun enters. She believes she is a cyborg. Though this hospital is full of characters, even they do not understand Yeong-gun who talks to vending machines and public phones. Il-soon, good at observations and stealing other people’s talent, focuses his attention on Yeong-gun. Yeong-gun who believes cyborgs should not eat, continues to lose weight and becomes thinner and thinner. Worried about Yong-gun, Il-soon does everything in his power for her.
He teaches Yeong-gun how to float, and move about freely. He sings her a yodel when she is unhappy; her sorrows are his sorrows, which he tries to empathize with her. Il-soon promises an infinite after service if ever the cyborg breaks and through Il-soon, Yeong-gun begins to feel emotions that a normal cyborg does not usually feel. Eventually, the two begin to fall in love. But, Yeong-gun still refuses to eat to the point where it threatens her life. To save her, Il-soon takes the most ultimate action ever.

View Point
Director Park, Chan-wook who is famous for directing the revenge trilogy ‘Old Boy,’ ‘Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance,’ and ‘Sympathy for Lady Vengeance’ has chosen the love story ‘I’m a Cyborg, but that’s Okay’ as his next film. Although it feels like a science-fiction movie, it is actually a romantic comedy, and has been credited as a new type of movie. The mental hospital is in pastel colors, and the surrounding minor characters’ bizarre imaginations make this movie a light-hearted movie by Park, Chan-wook.
Actress Lim Soo-Jung lost 5kg, weighing around 30kg for the movie. Lim Soo-Jung and co-actor Rain, singer/actor, create cute and funny scenes, making the audience laugh. This movie was invited to enter the 2007 Berlin International Film Festival Competition.
