Fall: Ten years have passed, and the adult monk returns to the temple as a fugitive who murdered his wife for cheating on him. The old monk severely whips him as he tries to kill himself unable to overcome his grief. The old monk writes for the adult monk Pranjaparpamita (Buddhist) sutras on the hermitage's wooden deck. Winter: The adult monk, now a middle-aged man, comes back to the hermitage that is now in ruins. He trains his mind and spirit to find the peace within. And one day, he finds a child who was abandoned by a woman. ... and Spring: The monk, now an old man, spends a peaceful spring with the child, who is a child monk. As the old monk did in his childhood, the child monk ties stones to a frog and a snake and laughs innocently.

View Point
The movie speaks of the meaning of life by metaphorically expressing the life of a child monk against the four seasons. The movie has exceptional visual elegance with the temple as a background.
